- Found myself interested in the works of Ambrose McEvoy and John Singer Sargent - in particular, their portraiture. Wanted to try and replicate the loose yet measured strokes that made up their portraits.
- Largely struggled with the "control" part of "loose and controlled" which lead to large mistakes due to being weak at and lacking an affinity for the medium of paint in general, such as the big black mark around the right eye of the painting above on the left, as well as an overt deformation of the entire face above that. However I think I was at least mildly successful at the concept of keeping the focus entirely on the face and abstracting/simplifying less necessary details.
